Standard 10: Collaboration, Ethics, and Relationships
"A teacher must be able to communicate and interact with parents or guardians, families, school colleagues, and the community to support student learning and well-being."
A strong teacher will form relationships beyond textbooks found in a classroom. It is important for a teacher to give back to their community and create relationships with outside of the classroom. Teachers are also required to follow a code of ethics to ensure the safety of their students. When a teacher does this, a bond of trust is formed and the classroom environment is benefited by this relationship.

Artifact Descriptions
The artifact I chose to represent Standard 10 is a copy of the permission form that was sent home to the parents of the students in the third grade class I taught in for my ten-week student teaching experience. The permission form was needed because it was required that I video-tape myself teaching for the submission of my edTPA to Pearson.
Analysis |
Synthesis |
The edTPA video permission slip addresses Standard 10 by showing strong communication to parents about what is going to be happening in their child's classroom. It is ethically right for a school and teacher to request permission from a parent before showing a student's face in a video or picture that will be posted or sent somewhere for others to see. This permission slip was signed by all parents of the students in my class before they were shown in my video clip.

The artifact provided me with experience in communicating with parents about an important subject. I do think I will use this information in my future classroom because of the rise of social media. It is important that with social media being so popular, teachers be extra careful that they are following all rules and guidelines put in place by the state or school district.
