Tuning Protocol Overall Reflection
Doing the tuning protocol assignment was extremely beneficial to my education during senior year. I learned more about how my teaching looks to others and what techniques I need to improve on most. After watching my video, I have noticed that I need to get away from the front of the room while I am teaching. I also learned that two minds are better than one. If ever given the opportunity to get feedback from my fellow team members while teaching, I will do so. Being able to take constructive criticism from others will only help make me a better teacher in the long run. This project was also helpful in raising my confidence going into my final semester of college this spring. The edTPA can be a nerve racking task to think about, but after completing this project I feel that the edTPA is doable and I will do well on it because of this practice experience.
If I were to teach this segment again I feel I could improve on my energy level in the classroom. It is hard to expect the kids to be excited about learning if I'm not excited myself! There were points where I felt my energy level toward the lesson and the students was low and I would like to raise that energy level to help the students engagement. I also would change the location that I had the students complete their activities in. For example, after teaching these specific math lessons, I learned that assignments involving dice always need to be done on the floor. Which brings me to the final thing that I would change if I were to teach these lessons again, I would put more thought into distribution of materials. I have learned that transitions and the process of how you distribute materials can make a lesson either go smoothly or be a total disaster. Specifically for my lessons, I could have handed out the dice in a more organized manner as well as talk about how to handle using dice during an assignment. I believe addressing these things before they became a problem could have helped my lessons go more smoothly.
